40GB IDE Toshiba HDD1524 4200 RPM, (What's this?) This hard drive is a special purpose device that I purchased specifically for a Toshiba Portege R100. There are indications that it will work with some iPod models. However, whether or not it is compatible with iPods I know not. It works in the R100 arena. So, unless there is a special need, the question is, why bother? You can buy a much larger capacity IDE or SATA device, together with an external drive box, for the same price. If I knew then what I know now, I would have stayed away from the R100 and laptops with embedded hard drives. Such devices are definitely throwaways unless covered by an extended warranty.
