Fair Buy, (What's this?) Bought this a few weeks ago for a Monster comp build and have no complaints so far. Runs quiet, transfers data fast enough. Just what I expected.
Good HDD, (What's this?) I bought this HDD to replace a failed 4 year old drive in my NAS RAID array. As expected, it dropped right in and the NAS formatted and synced it with the other drives. No issues. I expect to replace them again in about 2-3 years since no disk drives dependably last in continuous service much longer than that. Seagate Barracudas have always performed very well in my systems, both laptops and desktops. Excellent equipment.
A minnow not a Barracuda !, I always buy components from Amazon. I made an exception in this case, bought an emachine from Wallmart, December 2010. her computer died just before Christmas and I had to get her up and running fast. (She works from home) It is 13 months old and the hard drive is dead. One month out of emachine warrnty. No support from the mfg. If I had known it had a Seagate in it, I would have bought another brand from Amazon and paid for rush shipping. I've built three machines and upgraded two with the biggest portion of the hardware comming from Amazon, all perfect and the service is great.
As to this drive: it can be had for less and Amazon sells a newer, and I hope more reliable version, BUT IS STILL SEGATE. JUST KEEP THAT IN MIND. When it fails, you will have a real company on your side and if it's less than a year old, can rest assured that Amazon will make it right.
A fast and reliable drive that has worked well for me!, I own over 50 hard drives and 99.9% of them are Seagate. I own several of this model and as my drives need to be replaced I use a SATA Revision 3 drive if my drive controller can use that protocol. I like the additional speed that you can get using the 6 Gb/s rate of the newer SATA interface. I have not had one problem with these drives and the writing speed is phenomenal when compared to SATA II.
This drive spins the disk at 7200 RPM and a 32 MB memory cache that provides high data speed transfer and fast burst performance for exchanging data. Just remember that to utilize the SATA Revision 3 specs, your drive controller must be SATA Revision 3 compatible. This drive is also downward compatible with SATA II interfaces but will only operate at 3 Gb/s on a SATA II controller.
It is a bare drive which means that it does not come with any CD disk providing software tools or any SATA or power cables.
I do not like that the price has gone up dramatically and but that does not detract from the fact that the drives have performed flawlessly. A massive flood in Thailand shut down 1000s of factories including major hard drive manufacturing companies. Seagate was not affected but the price of hard drives has gone up dramatically and all suppliers are making extra profits due to this disaster. I am just being patient and not making any large purchases while the prices are so high.
Poor description, (What's this?) I wanted an internal hard drive for a laptop. This came up in the search and I saw 1TB and fast speed and decided it was the best drive for the money. If it actually fit in a laptop it would have been great. I had to send it back. This is an internal drive for a desktop computer, not a laptop.
What's not to like?, (What's this?) This was a simple install, and came off without any issues.
Delivered on time, in well packed box. What's not to like.
(Of course you need to provide your own SATA cable.
Seagate hard drive, (What's this?) The product was exactly as advertised. It arrived quickly and was packaged well to prevent damage.
We installed it into our back up device and it worked great.
Absolute garbage!!!, (What's this?) I purchased this drive on 8/1/11 and installed it on an HP slimline. Within a couple of days the computer crashed and had to be booted from CD bootable disk. It was fine for a while then in December it finally crashed. I ran both PC dotor diagnostic and the SEATOOLS diagnostic available from:([...])both diagnostic tests showed a fatal error. Amazon only gives you 30 day rteturn and Seagate will replace the drive if you pay shipping (about $10).
By the way Seagate gave me no problems and they were extremely helpful and responsive. The problem I have is that this drive didn't last very long. I had concerns about buying it after reading other's comments about the drive. I will get a replacement and see how that works out.
Easy install, good performance, (What's this?) I used this 1TB drive to replace a 750GB drive (also Seagate Barracuda 7200) in an HP All In One. It was pretty easy to remove and replace, using the instructions found on the net.
used in media center, i bought this to store my kid's shows on our media center. it's a nice drive and is fast enough to keep up with my gigabit network streaming recorded tv shows over a media extender in my house.
