Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 GB Pata 16 MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Retail Kit DrivesWDBAAV5000ENC-NRSN Not sure about this drive yet

Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 GB Pata 16 MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Retail Kit DrivesWDBAAV5000ENC-NRSN, (What's this?) Item arrived in great shape:
Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 GB Pata 16 MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Retail Kit DrivesWDBAAV5000ENC-NRSN Works Great.
Not sure about this drive yet, (What's this?) Mounted it in an external USB drive case and it takes a computer (tried it on a couple) a long, long time to recognize it and data transfer is incredibly slow for some reason. I have several of the same exact case with 500 Gig IDE drives and they perform perfectly. The drive came pre-formated so I'm thinkin' that maybe I need to re-format and try again. Otherwise..price per Gig was very reasonable.
Works great!, (What's this?) The drive arrived before I expected it. The drive works great. I upgraded my wife's Dell Dimension 2400 from a 40GB drive to this 500GB drive. Windows XP starts up faster and the computer is quieter.
Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 GB Pata 16 MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Retail Kit DrivesWDBAAV5000ENC-NRSN, (
Excellent buy, (What's this?) I bought two of these for an older PC that I use for a video server.
Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 GB PATA Hard Drive, (
A fast and easy replacement drive, (What's this?) The drive was packed very securely and arrived in perfect condition. It was very easy to install, even for a semi-novice like myself, it is working great and saved my computer from an early grave. Just be sure you have a source for all the drivers that will be needed when you replace your hard drive.
Last of the Parallel drives ?, (What's this?) I needed this to upgrade a Sempron 3000 K8M800-M2(by ECS) board which has worked very well since 2005(boots XP fast). Although it has leaders for SATA drives the K8M800 BIOS would not recognize serial drives which are now faster and cheaper for the same capacity. Although I've seen a Seagate 750 GB drive in the past I believe this is now the largest parallel 40 pin drive still available and thats why I got it for this board. The alternative of getting a new board for the Sempron 3000 is out as disappointingly AMD has changed away from socket 754. This drive works well on the older but good K8M800. The box is smaller, contains a jumper and screws but does not contain the LifeGuard CD any more.
happy camper, (What's this?)
Perfectly fit my needs, (What's this?) I own an older PC which required a PATA internal hard drive. I wanted to add an internal drive to an empty bay since my primary drive was full. This WD brand hard drive fit the bill perfectly. Right size, right configuration and right price. I would recommend this drive to anyone who wants to expand capacity rather than buy a new PC. Important side note: I needed to contact Western Digital for a technical question and it was a pleasant and helpful experince...the support was great.

    Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500 GB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s with NCQ 16MB Cache 3.5 Inch Internal Bare Drive ST3500413AS A minnow not a Barracuda !

Fair Buy, (What's this?) Bought this a few weeks ago for a Monster comp build and have no complaints so far. Runs quiet, transfers data fast enough. Just what I expected.
Good HDD, (What's this?) I bought this HDD to replace a failed 4 year old drive in my NAS RAID array. As expected, it dropped right in and the NAS formatted and synced it with the other drives. No issues. I expect to replace them again in about 2-3 years since no disk drives dependably last in continuous service much longer than that. Seagate Barracudas have always performed very well in my systems, both laptops and desktops. Excellent equipment.
A minnow not a Barracuda !, I always buy components from Amazon. I made an exception in this case, bought an emachine from Wallmart, December 2010. her computer died just before Christmas and I had to get her up and running fast. (She works from home) It is 13 months old and the hard drive is dead. One month out of emachine warrnty. No support from the mfg. If I had known it had a Seagate in it, I would have bought another brand from Amazon and paid for rush shipping. I've built three machines and upgraded two with the biggest portion of the hardware comming from Amazon, all perfect and the service is great.

As to this drive: it can be had for less and Amazon sells a newer, and I hope more reliable version, BUT IS STILL SEGATE. JUST KEEP THAT IN MIND. When it fails, you will have a real company on your side and if it's less than a year old, can rest assured that Amazon will make it right.
A fast and reliable drive that has worked well for me!, I own over 50 hard drives and 99.9% of them are Seagate. I own several of this model and as my drives need to be replaced I use a SATA Revision 3 drive if my drive controller can use that protocol. I like the additional speed that you can get using the 6 Gb/s rate of the newer SATA interface. I have not had one problem with these drives and the writing speed is phenomenal when compared to SATA II.

This drive spins the disk at 7200 RPM and a 32 MB memory cache that provides high data speed transfer and fast burst performance for exchanging data. Just remember that to utilize the SATA Revision 3 specs, your drive controller must be SATA Revision 3 compatible. This drive is also downward compatible with SATA II interfaces but will only operate at 3 Gb/s on a SATA II controller.

It is a bare drive which means that it does not come with any CD disk providing software tools or any SATA or power cables.

I do not like that the price has gone up dramatically and but that does not detract from the fact that the drives have performed flawlessly. A massive flood in Thailand shut down 1000s of factories including major hard drive manufacturing companies. Seagate was not affected but the price of hard drives has gone up dramatically and all suppliers are making extra profits due to this disaster. I am just being patient and not making any large purchases while the prices are so high.
Poor description, (What's this?) I wanted an internal hard drive for a laptop. This came up in the search and I saw 1TB and fast speed and decided it was the best drive for the money. If it actually fit in a laptop it would have been great. I had to send it back. This is an internal drive for a desktop computer, not a laptop.
What's not to like?, (What's this?) This was a simple install, and came off without any issues.
Delivered on time, in well packed box. What's not to like.
(Of course you need to provide your own SATA cable.
Seagate hard drive, (What's this?) The product was exactly as advertised. It arrived quickly and was packaged well to prevent damage.
We installed it into our back up device and it worked great.
Absolute garbage!!!, (What's this?) I purchased this drive on 8/1/11 and installed it on an HP slimline. Within a couple of days the computer crashed and had to be booted from CD bootable disk. It was fine for a while then in December it finally crashed. I ran both PC dotor diagnostic and the SEATOOLS diagnostic available from:([...])both diagnostic tests showed a fatal error. Amazon only gives you 30 day rteturn and Seagate will replace the drive if you pay shipping (about $10).

By the way Seagate gave me no problems and they were extremely helpful and responsive. The problem I have is that this drive didn't last very long. I had concerns about buying it after reading other's comments about the drive. I will get a replacement and see how that works out.
Easy install, good performance, (What's this?) I used this 1TB drive to replace a 750GB drive (also Seagate Barracuda 7200) in an HP All In One. It was pretty easy to remove and replace, using the instructions found on the net.
used in media center, i bought this to store my kid's shows on our media center. it's a nice drive and is fast enough to keep up with my gigabit network streaming recorded tv shows over a media extender in my house.

Western Digital 1.5 TB Caviar Green SATA Intellipower 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Desktop Hard Drive WD15EARS western digital 1.5tb

Works fine..., (What's this?) Bought this as a replacement for a defective Seagate drive. I cloned the old drive to this one with no problem. It has worked fined since.
Unreliable, (What's this?) I purchased this from Amazon as a lightning deal and was really excited about the great value I was getting. The drive installed fine and I proceeded to load all of my data onto the drive. Everything seemed okay...until day two when it completely quit working.
quiet and quick, (What's this?) hard drives (2) are in my Drobo works great, quiet. no issues. wish Id bought couple more as the flooding over seas caused a doubling+ in price for the Wd20ears.
WD Caviar Green HD review, (What's this?) This is my 2nd WD Caviar drive.
No issues, work like any hard drive., (What's this?) These are lower power drives, but decent performance wise. I'd recommend these for any non-RAID storage environment. This is the best price I could find since the flooding in Thailand, which has doubled HDD prices. They aren't as whisper quiet as other/newer models, but the noise they create isn't an annoyance by any means. If you are running a modern operating system then you shouldn't have any problems with the fact that this is an Advanced Format drive. If you are running Windows XP or other operating systems that don't handle Advanced format drives very well then you can find a Re-alignment utility that will help you use these drives with Legacy operating systems. Great buy! I've had nothing but success with Western Digital drives.
western digital 1.5tb, (What's this?) I think Seagate Hard drives sucks!
As a photographer I go through hard drives quicker. This is my 3rd hard drive in the last years. Why! Because I think seagate sucks! One seagate I bought just quite working within a year. I had over 50k images on it. The other makes so much noise...finger nail scraping on the chalkboard type of noise....I cant use it.
I bought Seagates to save a buck...and did not realize they were chineese own.
So this time I decided it would be wise not to throw my money out the Sea Gate.

The Western Digital hardrive has lived up to everything they claim.
    It is super quiet!
    It is super Fast!
    The transfer went great!

I always liked Western Digital...but I fell for the cheaper alternative of Seagate...and it cost me. In fact, to date Seagate Refuse to refund me my money back even though they agree that it was there hard drive that was at fault.

For me, It cost me more to buy the cheaper seagate, and I still missing about 5k images that was between backups.

I am extremely happy with the wd 1.5tb caviar green and if it cost you a little more....believe me...it is worth it.
    Simply
You can beat it...buy it now.
serves to mainboard MSI 870-G45 ???, I want to know if the mainboard 870-G45 ([...]) endures a hard disk SATA 3 of 6GB/S to buy one.
Semi-D.O.A., (What's this?) Purchased Jan.1, 2012, received Jan. 4th, RMA Jan. 7th. This drive was slow out the door, I didn't think that much about it being a "Green" drive but after 2 days I suspected this drive had bad sectors. My PC kept freezing, my second partition just disappeared, and google chrome kept giving me the "Waiting for cache" status.

So I went to WD website and downloaded the Western Digital Data Life Guard Diagnostics (WDDLG) software. After about 9 hrs of running, test result-FAIL. WDDLG offered to repair the bad sectors, but I immediately received an ERROR message. Amazon refunded my purchase, and now I am back in research mode to find myself another hard drive for my PC.

Should I give WD another try? I will say this, they definitely don't make HDDs like they used to.
Reasonably priced!, (What's this?) This western digital drive works well in my RAID setup. They are lasting a lot time without breaking and I do like the fact that it is GREEN. It is very reasonably priced for a 1.5 TB drive. I usually buy Seagate, but I am very impressed by this hard drive.
Not very good, I received this product promptly, so Amazon did a great job of delivery. The drive is running very slowly and did so upon installation. I have tried it on several computers with the same results. I downloaded the information instructions, drivers, etc and have fiddled with it for a couple of months with no better results. I suspect the drive is defective. I will try to get a replacement of refund from Western Digital if possible.

WD Caviar Green HD review, (What's this?) This is my 2nd WD Caviar drive. I bought this 2TB drive to be used in an external encloure with ESATA to back up my music and play it on my desktop computer. My Internal HD is also a WD Caviar Green. The lower power consumption along with the quiet operation, Warranty, WD name, etc. make this a great drive and value.

    Western Digital 450 GB VelociRaptor SATA 6 Gb/s 10,000 RPM 32 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Enterprise Hard Drive - WD4500HLHX

Fast, low noise hard drive, This is a fast, low noise hard drive. I've had no problems. The drive has its own heat fins to keep it cool as you can see in the photo. Solid, well built. Some people like a certain brand of hard drive. I've always had good luck with Wstern Digital.
10,000 RPM, (What's this?) Great for my mass storage drive. I am using a corsair force series gt SSD for drive C. But I needed something bigger for video etc and my 120GB drive was not enough and anything bigger costs a small fortune. Still if you cannot afford an SSD, this is the one to go to as the 10,000 rpm with 32mb cache will help out quite a bit. And it is quite.
Hard Drive, This hard drive is working great. Much better than the WD20EARS that went bad right out of the box. Lasted about one day. Just long enough to get enough data on it to be a pain when it crashed.
Easy install. Great upgrade, (What's this?)
10,000 RPM SATA Drive, (What's this?) Very fast drive at a good price. Handles HDV Video for which it was purchased for. Be aware you will need a SATA Controller to take advantage of the speed.
Works fine with Intel SATA II controller but not with Marvell SATA III, (What's this?) I install this hard drive in my ASUS P7P55D-E LX motherboard and it works fine with the SATA II Intel PCH SATA AHCI controller.
Excellent small business RAID drive upgrade, (What's this?) We purchased three of these to replace an entire RAID 5 array in a small business server. The factory drives were (no names mentioned) 7200 RPM with minimal cache and approaching their four year anniversary.
somewhat satified; expected more performance, Selected this HD for my new workstation build due to SATA 6Gb and 10000rpm specs. I usually use SCSI drives, but thought that SATA 6Gb would be able to provide kick butt performance. Installed this HD along with i7-2600s, 8GB DDR3 memory on a ASUS P8P67 Deluxe mobo (which has SATA 6Gb ports).

Installed Window 7 64-bit and ran Windows Experience Index assessment and got 7.3+ ratings for processor, memory, graphics and gaming graphics subscores; except the Velociraptor HD got a 6.0 on the scale of 1.0 to 7.9. Somewhat disappointed about that score . . . this is supposed to be the fastest SATA HD around.
Good fast drive, (What's this?) The drive was supposed to be a addition to my existing server. The drive is great and server grade.
Product Working so far, (What's this?) The product is working fine and packaging was acceptable. plus it came on time. No complaints. I bought this product because i really wanted a 10,000 rpm drive.

  • Rock-solid reliability - With 1.4 million hours MTBF, these drives have the highest available reliability rating on a high capacity SATA drive.
  • Ships in Certified Frustration-Free Packaging
  • Killer speed - Fastest SATA drive on the planet

Read and Purchase accordingly, (What's this?) The drive is good considering capacity and RPM's speed. It's not a workhorse simply because it's not meant to be a workhorse. It's merely for storage.
One downside to the product is that its listing does not indicate it is 12mm in thickness as opposed to the standard 9.5mm. So for those with notebook limitations make sure you find out if it fits first. Now for those gamers upgrading their PS3... well it would work but you might have to tamper with the device itself (might void warranty) to make it fit. Unless you get a SATA female/male extension to attach it to the internal bay which would also work.

Seagate Momentus 7200.4 250 GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s 16MB Cache 2.5 Inch Internal NB Hard Drive ST9250410AS-Bare Drive (Amazon

Failed after about a year of solid everyday use..., This review is for the 320GB version of the HD which I used as a replacement in my MacBook Pro 1,1 laptop because I wanted to upgrade the OS to Snow Leopard and the original HD was not big enough at 100GB. At first the drive worked great, it was a noticeably faster and much more quiet than the original HD that came with the Mac Book Pro. Similarly with the new HD I noticed that my MacBook still can get quite hot during prolonged periods of use just like with the old HD that came with the MacBook.

After about a year of solid everyday use (several hours for school work and several more hours watching TV programming on Hulu and Amazon) my Mac Book began to have slower, and even more slower boot up times until eventually the it would no longer boot at all. I was able to temporarily fix the problem by erasing the HD and re-installing the Snow Leopard OS, however the same problem began to occur after about two months of use with the same final result of the Mac Book no longer being able to boot up on its own.

I have tried erasing and re-installing the Snow Leopard on the HD about six or seven different times and it always seems to fix the problem initially, but with the same results of the MacBook no longer being able to boot up. Also, with each erase and re-install of the OS, I am finding that I have less time before the MacBook becomes unable to boot on its own. Initially this process would by me a month or two, but now it seems to only work for a couple of days before I can no longer boot up.
    works, (What's this?) works fine.
3 months later and it's busted, (What's this?) Installed this in a friends laptop as an upgrade and now they're bringing it back to me a few months later because it's locking up and running slow. Ran some tests and the drive is riddled with bad sectors and seeks constantly. I'll have to replace it again but I won't be buying Seagate this time.
Mix review, (What's this?) Seagate is a great! But I am having issues with system crashing after the install. I used apricorn easy upgrade with it's latest software to clone my 350GB drive to the 750GB drive. Whenever the system logs off, switch user, wake up after sleep mode, it reboots by itself, sometimes cycles booting.
Mine works pefect, I'm seeing a lot of mixed reviews here, so I just thought I would add my input. I got one of these about a year ago. I got the 500 GB, and came back today to look at the 750GB because I liked it so much. I've loved the drive. Fast, and easy to move my data off the other drive. No problems, no noises. Just works, and works fast!

I've did some basic testing, but I forgot the numbers and don't have them anymore. But I had the non-XT version of the drive before and did some comparisons. Even after just the first boot or two, it was faster. Word, Picasa, profile switching, Eclipse, VMWare ... all seem to work faster. It's a pleasure to use this machine that my wife mostly uses now. (I got the company laptop myself)

I recommend the drive highly, almost want to buy one for my work machine. It's nice to have the capacity, speed, and low price.

Maybe I got lucky or something, but it think it's worth the chance. But as always, be sure to backup your data. I've got tonz of photos on my computer, and I make sure they are backed up to an external drive every now and then. (And I don't clear them off our camera until they are).
DOA, (What's this?) Not a robust drive.
Bought it a couple months ago and didn't get around to installing it until now.
(i.e. after 30 day return period)
Once installed received nothing but annoying beeping coming from the hard drive.
Took the drive and laptop to a local computer tech.
    He confirmed it's dead Jim.
Excellent Purchase, (What's this?) Fast Delivery. Fantastic packaging. Worked perfect out of the box. This was a purchase to replace the Toshiba (160Gig 5400RPM)factory hard drive that crashed. I was quoted $320 to fix at local computer shop. Took me 3 minutes to install the HD, so I saved $240 by doing it myself. There is a big big difference in the speed also. Everything loads at least 2X as fast. Start up is less then 5 seconds. Very quite. There are no overheating problems either. I am running it on a Dual Core Processor with Vista Business. 90% of applications are High Graphics (CAD,CFD,Photoshop,Corel) and not once has it even thought about locking up. I read several bad reviews about this product but went with it anyways because of the price. There is nothing I can say negative about this HD. I was looking at the Momentus XT as a replacement, but couldn't justify the 2X price for a laptop that I use as a spare. I would purchase another one of these if I needed it.
Works great, (What's this?) I got 2 of these hard drives and have them in an external firewire 800 raid that works both with my Mac OS Lion and Windows 7 setups. I have used them in both raid 1 and raid 0.
Grear drive at a GREAT PRICE., (What's this?) I had been looking for a 320GB drive with 7200RPM at a good price but to no avail.
750GB drive failed within two weeks, (What's this?) Before I get into specifics, this caution - note the date and model on this (and other) Seagate internal hard drive reviews. Amazon lumps together drives of differing technology, size, and generation into one review pile. Look for the reviews that actually apply to the drive you're considering.

Even though I read multiple reviews warning that this 750GB drive is prone to failure, I'm an optimist so I bought one anyway.

Hitachi Travelstar 80 GB Hard Drive HTS721080G9AT00

Perfect upgrade for an old laptop, (What's this?) The HD in my wife's Inspiron 6000 died the other day after running faithfully without any hiccups for the past 6 years (everything was backed up). As she didn't want to replace the laptop right now since it's mainly used in the kitchen for recipes and *sigh* facebook I hunted down a good replacement drive that would also hopefully speed it up a bit. This 80GB 7200rpm drive is light years faster than the old 60GB 4200rpm drive that it came with and has kept my wife very happy using the old laptop.
