Just Works, (What's this?) A fact of life is hard drives fail. It's just a matter of time until there's a media failure or the motor gives up the ghost.
With that in mind it was time to add a new root drive to my three year old Mac Pro. Ordered from Amazon. When it showed up, got it unboxed and installed in the system. Booted, opened Disk Utilities, and initialized the new drive. Opened Carbon Copy Cloner and cloned the existing root drive to the new disk. Changed start-up disk in System Preferences and rebooted system.
Easy Install, Solid Performance, (What's this?) There's not much to say, it was a very easy hardware install (slide it in, tighten the screws, hook up the power and sata cables). The I didn't use the provided DVD since I had a previous version of the Seagate software from a previous drive install. It was a quick setup. I ran a full set of diagnostics - no problem. It's been purring ever since. This was an addition to two other Seagate drives in the system that have 5 and 11 years of trouble free operation.
Excellent Choice for Home Desktop Expansion, (What's this?)
Drive, (What's this?) Software was a bit cumbersome. I guess I was explecting something more intuitive. Drive works fine but not as well as the Maxtor drive I was used to but all and all it is fine.
Seagate Is Great, (What's this?) I have found Seagate Barracuda drives to be very good. I have had less failures with them than any other drive I have owned. I will continue to purchase these drives into the future.
Good Drive, Amazon's description & photo are outdated, Regarding the 500 GB drive and all in the Barracuda Series: These are a pretty standard drive, that has been used for years. Not blazing fast, not too slow.
The AMAZON descriptions and MAIN PHOTO are way out of date, about 2-3 versions old.
The 2010 current carton is the Brown/Black/Orange striped carton
The 2010 current version is 7200.12, NOT 7200.9 as stated.
Different product than listed, (What's this?)
Not what I bought!, (What's this?) while I did get working hard drives in good condition, they were not the hard drives that I ordered. They were just packaged in a box with the model number etc of what I ordered but what was inside was a different model and lower profile drive. While this might be ok for some people we bought these specifically to go into a RAID set populated by identical drives, so getting shipped drives that were falsely packaged is very misleading and very inconvenient.
Right Size for my new Windows 7 Pro, (What's this?) Seagate 500 GB did boot up without any problem and full loaded. I am happy with this product.
Quiet and faster, (What's this?) Since I'm getting fed up with the accelerated rate of waste in the technology industry, I decided to upgrade my Intel Core 2 Duo Windows 7 Pro (32 bits) PC to better its performance and be able to run the type of applications I use for my top managment consulting profesional services as strategic planning adviser. Mainly, I use Microsoft Project, Powerpoint, Word, Excel, Mindjet's Mind Manager, Roxio Creator, Adobe's Acrobat & Photoshop (the satandard editions) and a couple of printers (multifunction and laser).
