Seagate Barracuda 500 GB 7200RPM SATA NCQ 16 MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Desktop Hard Drive ST3500641AS-RK-Retail Kit

Just Works, (What's this?) A fact of life is hard drives fail. It's just a matter of time until there's a media failure or the motor gives up the ghost.

With that in mind it was time to add a new root drive to my three year old Mac Pro. Ordered from Amazon. When it showed up, got it unboxed and installed in the system. Booted, opened Disk Utilities, and initialized the new drive. Opened Carbon Copy Cloner and cloned the existing root drive to the new disk. Changed start-up disk in System Preferences and rebooted system.
Easy Install, Solid Performance, (What's this?) There's not much to say, it was a very easy hardware install (slide it in, tighten the screws, hook up the power and sata cables). The I didn't use the provided DVD since I had a previous version of the Seagate software from a previous drive install. It was a quick setup. I ran a full set of diagnostics - no problem. It's been purring ever since. This was an addition to two other Seagate drives in the system that have 5 and 11 years of trouble free operation.
Excellent Choice for Home Desktop Expansion, (What's this?)
Drive, (What's this?) Software was a bit cumbersome. I guess I was explecting something more intuitive. Drive works fine but not as well as the Maxtor drive I was used to but all and all it is fine.
Seagate Is Great, (What's this?) I have found Seagate Barracuda drives to be very good. I have had less failures with them than any other drive I have owned. I will continue to purchase these drives into the future.
Good Drive, Amazon's description & photo are outdated, Regarding the 500 GB drive and all in the Barracuda Series: These are a pretty standard drive, that has been used for years. Not blazing fast, not too slow.

The AMAZON descriptions and MAIN PHOTO are way out of date, about 2-3 versions old.

The 2010 current carton is the Brown/Black/Orange striped carton
The 2010 current version is 7200.12, NOT 7200.9 as stated.
Different product than listed, (What's this?)
Not what I bought!, (What's this?) while I did get working hard drives in good condition, they were not the hard drives that I ordered. They were just packaged in a box with the model number etc of what I ordered but what was inside was a different model and lower profile drive. While this might be ok for some people we bought these specifically to go into a RAID set populated by identical drives, so getting shipped drives that were falsely packaged is very misleading and very inconvenient.
Right Size for my new Windows 7 Pro, (What's this?) Seagate 500 GB did boot up without any problem and full loaded. I am happy with this product.
Quiet and faster, (What's this?) Since I'm getting fed up with the accelerated rate of waste in the technology industry, I decided to upgrade my Intel Core 2 Duo Windows 7 Pro (32 bits) PC to better its performance and be able to run the type of applications I use for my top managment consulting profesional services as strategic planning adviser. Mainly, I use Microsoft Project, Powerpoint, Word, Excel, Mindjet's Mind Manager, Roxio Creator, Adobe's Acrobat & Photoshop (the satandard editions) and a couple of printers (multifunction and laser).

Kingston SSDNow V+180 256GB Micro SATA II 3GB/S 1.8 Inch Solid State Drive SVP180S2/256G

Works great, (What's this?) I put it into my old legendary IBM Thinkpad T42. To connect it I used mini SATA to IDE adapter. With dynamic FSB frequency switiching and Fan RPM Control software it makes my laptop noiseless and fast.
Once you go SSD you won't go back, (What's this?) I upgraded my HP 2740P laptop from an Intel 160GB SSD. The Kingston 1.8" SSD was a snap to install using a USB 1.8" SATA drive enclosure (about $15) and Acronis True Image 2012 software (about $40). The Acronis software made the process a pure joy, but note the free 30 version will not allow disk cloning so you will need to purchase the software or use other clone software. The cloning process took perhaps over one hour and then the disk just snapped into place using a mini-SATA adapter which I already had with the HP laptop. It worked so good I tried another 250GB drive which was just as easy as the first drive. The only criticism I have is I wish there was a larger 500GB or more 1.8" SSD drive available.

SATA and IDE Hard Drive & Optical Drive USB Adapter Kit COMBO

careful with the power cord, I've had this for a few years now. Worked great for a while. I hadn't used it in a while, when i pulled it out recently there must have been a short in the power cable. Long story short, it gave my computer a power surge and now the computer will not boot. I would not recommend this unit, I'll be buying a different one because i have several old hard drives i use as backup discs.
Best data transfer adapter out there, (What's this?) This is the best transfer adapter I ever used. Very easy to operate just plug hard drive or cd drive onto the adapter and plug usb into computer thats it starts right up. Do yourself a favor don't spend your money at best buy and pay 90 to 120 bucks for them to pull your data. Just buy this one you will be happy you did i am.

Western Digital Caviar Black 500 GB SATA III 7200 RPM 32 MB Cache Internal Desktop Hard Drive Bulk/OEM - WD5002AALX

So far so good, (What's this?) With hard drives, time is the real test. I don't care about noise, but I haven't heard this one make any noise when copying to it. I only mention that because the boot drive in the same computer is very loud. Hard drive prices are at a high at the time of writing, this was the best price/size.
I MAY HAVE BEEN WRONG GUYS WELL SEE!, (What's this?)
Very pleased with hard drive, (What's this?) This hard drive works great. I have had it for almost three months now and I have no complaints. I use it for my desktop computer that the family uses. I built my computer so I have some tech experience.
Good Hard Drive, (What's this?) No problems at all with this hard drive, works just fine. The only negative thing about it is that you will hear it, it's not the quietest hard drive but other than that it's great.
Noisy bugger, (What's this?) Bought drive from Amazon. Easy installation and it works OK but it is very noisy compared to drive it replaced.
First one came with bad sectors., (What's this?) So check your disk before you bother to load the operating system and all that other stuff! Needed something in a hurry to replace a dead drive. That did not happen.
The disk is fast with the 64mb buffer but my next disk will have to be the 1 to 3 GB types Seagate is bringing out and hopefully a SSD drive up front to improve system speed.
Most Reliable HD on the market?, (What's this?) http://www.amazon.
Exactly what I paid for..., (What's this?) This has turned out to be an excellent product. It is exactly what I wanted & paid for. I have had no problems or complaints about it's performance in anyway. If I needed another hard drive, I'd buy another one.
An impressive hard drive!, (What's this?) Great drive, so far. This drive replaces the six-month-old failed WD 1 TB Caviar Black the I installed in a new computer that I built six months ago.
So far so good, (What's this?) replaced a 500gb seagate drive that busted after a year. this drive was a good buy before the prices jumped up do to the whole flooding crisis. Drive is in and works great. runs quietly.

    WESTERN DIGITAL WD1200BEVS Hard Drive

Upgraded Xbox 360 to 120 Gigs with this drive, This drive worked out great when I needed to upgrade my 20 gig to 120 gigs on my Xbox 360. Not much else to say other than that. It works for those curious about the other $150 alternative.
Great larger drive for Xbox 360, (What's this?) I picked this up based on a recommendation from a PCWorld article titled "Upgrade Your Xbox 360's Hard Drive on the Cheap". It describes using this particular drive to replace the base 20GB drive or even the newer 60GB drives for the Xbox 360.
Like advertised., I was a little skeptical at first, but this really is a decent HDD and for the price, you cant beat it.
Works with the 360, (What's this?) I got this to replace my 20gb HDD and it worked like a charm.
120gb hard drive for Xbox360, at one third of the price, (What's this?) I bought this drive to replace the 20gb HD on my Xbox360 with a bigger one. It only took a BIOS flash from a bootable USB thumbdrive, a little unscrewing and reassembling, and I got a 120gb drive for less than 60 bucks.... that's less than half of the cost of the original one by Microsoft. You can even transfer your profiles and savegames from the old 20gb disk with a little of extra work, just look for a guide online.
Replacement Xbox 360 drive, (What's this?) Just what the Doctor ordered, had no problem modifying this drive to work with my Xbox360.
    It was a great deal.
Works Great on Xbox 360, (What's this?)
    good hd, (What's this?)

    Toshiba MK3008GAL - Hard drive - 30 GB - internal - 1.8" - ATA-100 - 4200 rpm - ZIF connection

IPod hard drive, (What's this?) I installed in my wifes IPod and so far very
happy. Also , the timeliness of getting this
    product.
This HD saves my ipod, (What's this?) My ipod 30gb is working again after change the HD. I am very glad to choose this vendor, I had troubles to find my package And the vendor replace it without extra cost. This vendor is compromised with the client.
Success, (What's this?) Worked great for my 5th Gen 30gb Video Ipod. Was faced with the dreaded "sad face" and definitely glad I took it upon myself to replace the hard drive instead of sending $120 apple's way for repair.

If you have never opened an Ipod before... be prepared, and take some time to find the tools you'll need. I found the Ipod pry tools (orange or green I believe, that can be found elsewhere online) to be extremely useful and I wish I had used them the first time around, (before I broke the faceplate and needed to replace that as well). Moral of the story, be patient and definitely check as many tutorial videos as possible before you begin.
Got 2 bad ones, Bought this on Amazon but not from Amazon. I probably could have kept returning these until I got a good one but who has time for that.
Well worth the purchase, (What's this?) This was bought to replace a dead drive in my 5th gen ipod video. It arrived very quickly, installed without a hitch and iTunes restored the ipod right off. Well worth the purchase! There are videos on youtube on how to replace the hard drive. After installing the drive, hook the ipod up to the computer, start iTunes and navigate over to the ipod tab, select restore ipod and get ready to have your baby up and working again.
Great IPOD drive, (What's this?) I purchased this drive to replace the dead one in my 5th gen ipod and it worked like a dream.
Good Hard Drive, (What's this?) Very good item, easy to install and works great.
MK3008GAL brought my Ipod back to life, (What's this?) About 2 years ago, I had my 30gig Ipod video crap out on me not too long after the warranty had expired. After a run of several failed Ipods after their warranty expired, I gave up on them and have been buying Sansas. I recently left one in a hotel and do not have the extra cash to invest in a new mp3 player. Anyways looked up online how to fix an ipod. It seemed simple enough that I could attempt it. If it didnt work, so what, its been broken anyways. I ordered this product on Monday and received it on Wednesday. I did some very delicate surgery on Ipodicus and was so happy to see it start up. What a success! This is the most valuable 25$ I have ever spent. If you have a malfunctioning Ipod past its warranty, I urge you to try to fix it yourself before shelling out more money for a new one.
Wrong Image was displayed and I ate a drive that was not what I wanted., (What's this?) I was disapoined as when I purchased the drive it had an image that looked like it was a compatible drive for my I-pod. I recieved the package and found the drive to not match the image that was online! I was too busy to return the drive and go through the nonsense needed to make the return. Lesson learned was dont buy anything image specific. The problem was that the image showed a different interface and this interface was not on the actual drive. Dont misunderstand my message, the drive was a great drive but just useless for me due to being the wrong item.
5th Gen ipod 30G Video Hard Drive Replacement, (What's this?) My 5th Gen ipod (over 5 years old) had started skipping, freezing and giving "use iTunes to restore" warning. Restore seemed to work but it kept crashing. This hard drive installed easily with a little patience. Look on youtube for videos demonstrating how to open the case with correct tools.

    SAMSUNG Spinpoint M5 HM160HC 160GB PATA/IDE 5400 RPM 8MB Buffer Mobile Hard Drive Bulk

Way better than buying a new computer!!, (What's this?) Bought this as a replacement for my laptop when a shock to the computer destroyed the stock hard drive. Way cheap, easy plug in install, and a far better choice than buying a new laptop.
Great product for rebuilding an old laptop, (What's this?) Purchased drive to replace one from an ancient (ten year old) Dell laptop. The original laptop drive had failed. The drive works perfectly and the laptop is now fully functional again. It has proven a very economical, effective method of resuscitating a dead computer. If you want to replace an old laptop IDE/ATA drive, I would recommend this Samsung.

A few words of caution: Replacement of a laptop drive and reinstallation of the operating system is not for the faint hearted. This drive is the older IDE interface type (not the currently standard SATA) purchased specifically to replace the drive in an old computer. This particular model will not work in laptops using the newer standard. My old laptop has an adapter between the hard drive and the mother board, and replacement of the drive required that the adapter be carefully separated from the broken drive then added to the interface pins of the new drive before installation. After installation it is necessary to reinstall the operating system on the new drive (in my case reinstalling Windows Millenium Edition then updating ME to Win XP -- the laptop had come with ME installed and XP was added as an update later). The operating system reinstallation process took many hours.
Good ATA Nard Drive for old notebooks, (What's this?) Purchased it as a replacement for old, infected with virus HD in my old Dell Inspirion B130. Old one was 40Gb.
Loaded it with Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2003. As of now, after about week of use, it works well, no complains. It is not a speedy one HD, but it does the job and it works with my Dell. I would recommend it for those who needs ATA HD for old notebooks.
Looks just like the orignal Thinkpad T40 Drive, (What's this?) My Thinkpad T40 has an IDE drive and I wanted a backup external drive that could be swapped out since my backups are cloned drives. This Samsung drive looks exactly like the T40 original drive but of course the Samsung has twice the capacity. I made a clone backup and swapped the drive as a test and it worked perfectly.
Quiet and runs very cool, (What's this?) I'm using this in a Thinkpad T40 which puts the hard drive right under the palmrest, so operating temperature becomes a concern when you've been using it a while.

The original Hitachi Deathstars ran so hot, I'd lift my hand to reveal a puddle of sweat, then right before failure they'd get too hot to touch -- no good!

This hard drive has none of the problems the Hitachi models did. Its much quieter and doesn't do the annoying "click-pop click-BOOM" that a lot of other drives do (Toshiba, Hitachi, Western Digital). This migh seem like a small detail, but it gets extremely annoying in a quiet room when your hard drive starts making these loud clicks, pops and rattles at random invervals.

Bottom line: This drive is worth your time and your money.
Ibook hd replacement, I ordered this replace a hard drive in an ibook G4. I followed ifixit's guide and was good to go. It's speedier for sure. I'd recommend this drive to any legacy ibook user.
    Great Hard Drive, (What's this?)
Replacing in iBook G4: Time Consuming But Do-able, (What's this?) This drive works great in my iBook G4, and it is MUCH quieter than the original hard drive.
Good drive for old laptops...., (What's this?) Ordered this drive to replace a defective drive in an old laptop. Was glad to find an old ATA drive still available. Installed the new drive with no problem and it works like a charm. I've used Samsung drives before and I've never had a problem with them.
What a life saver!!!, Great service, great price... This drive saved the life of my little PowerBook G4 workhorse.... installation went smooth, the formatting and installing Leopard went off without a hitch... the drive works great, it's quiet and accesses timely.

Western Digital 1 TB Scorpio Blue SATA II 5400 RPM 8 MB Cache 2.5-Inch Bulk/OEM Notebook Hard Drive - WD10JPVT

Works great in a NAS, (What's this?) I bought 4 and the work like advertised. I am not really pushing them that hard since I have them in a Synology 411Slim.
Great drive for PS3 slim, (What's this?) I bought this drive to upgrade my PS3 slim 120GB drive. It works perfectly! I would recommend this drive to anyone wanting to upgrade their PS3 slim drive.
PS3 Compatible, (What's this?) Fits perfectly into all 40, 60, and 80 GB Fat Models, this review does not excludede the slim models, however I do not own a slim and therefore am unable to test the compatibility.
Nice, quiet drive, but doesn't work with 2007 MBP 15"!, (What's this?) I was glad to find a SATA 2.5" 9.5mm-high 1TB hard drive, and thought it would work with my 2007 Macbook Pro (A1226), but it doesn't. My MBP incorrectly reads a capacity of 9.7TB, and is unable to format the drive. I instead successfully installed this drive on a unibody Macbook 13", and put the factory hard drive (240GB) into my 15".
    Happy,
Has anyone tried this on a ps3?,
PS3 Slim 9.5mm Fit HolySlimPS3, This Hard Drive will fit in the PS3 Slim model's, i test it out with my PS3 & plan on buy 1 more Hard Drive for my new PS3 Slim i getting. Own 2 PS3 Slim; so both Slims should 1TB Hard Drive to make it awesome. :) But this time around i going to test Samsung SpinPoint SATA 5400rpm 8 MB Cache 1 TB 2.5-Inch Hard Drive with Western Digital 1 TB to see which is the best.
    GREAT PURCHASE, (What's this?)
great with ps3, (What's this?) Works great with ps3 slim and laptop. Plenty of storage space in a new ps3, and used as a second storage drive in a dell m6600.

Hitachi Deskstar 3.5-Inch 2 TB 7200RPM SATA III 6 Gbps 64 MB Cache Internal Hard Drive 0F12115

Poor QC. Shame on Hitachi, I purchased 5 of these for a home server I built. 2 of them came DOA. Out of the box, brand new drives were DOA. Unacceptable, in my opinion. Fortunately, they were replaced promptly, and my server build was able to continue (a week later than I'd planned), but I went through a RMA process that I shouldn't have had to go through. I won't buy these again, even at such a great price. It's not worth the hassle.
Very Dubious Reliability, (What's this?) I Bought 3 of these drives last summer, and the short story is that one has never worked reliably, and another of the 3 keeps failing intermittantly. Of the 3 I bout, I could only use 2 for the purpose intended. I wanted to set up a RAID 5 array with Sata 6 speed, but my motherboard only had 2 Sata 6 ports. So I set up a RAID 1 array with the 2 and had to plug the 3rd drive into a Sata 3 port. The drives are supposedly backwards compatible, but it failed after a few weeks. I disconnected it while I waited to return it, got lazy and missed the return deadline. More recently, I thought I would install a 5-drive-in-3 bay, so I could hot-swap bad drives, but the cages are notoriously too big, and can't be installed if you have any hard drive rails or guides in your case. Along the way, I reconnected the bad drive, and it worked - at least initially. But then it failed again within a week. So now it really must be RMA'd (not that I would ever - under any circumstances - willingly order or use another one of these drives).

In the meantime, a second drive is failing intermittently.
Works well, runs cool, and is fast., I purchased three of these drives for a RAID 5 array in my new computer. They have now been in use for about two months with no problems. I appreciate that they are SATA 6, have a 64Mb cache, are only three platters, are very quiet, and run cool for such a drive. They also benchmark very fast (thanks, in part, to the larger cache) though the seek time is a tad slow, likely because of the AAM which reduces seek noise. I wish they had APM enabled to reduce heat and power at idle (and perhaps prolong life), but it is not a deal-breaker by any means. If they remain reliable in the long run, I'll be quite happy with them and definitely recommend them over a Seagate or WD.
Use Caution!!!!, (What's this?) Just wanted to warn any potential buyer about using these disks with Windows 7 (including x64).
High Quality, Great Value, (What's this?) I recently began pursuing a pair of hobbies involving video editing and photography. I have a couple of Mac Book Pro's and a windows desktop machine with 1.2TB of disk space between the three units. My investigations of video editing alerted me that 1 hour of tape could require as much as 13 - 15GB of storage for editing. I was quickly going to run out of storage without some sort of external drive solution. Hitachi has a well earned reputation for having the most reliable drives in the business. They run their drives thru a rigorous development process, and will not release a drive to the general public unless it has passed all key qualification checkpoints. Their drives are a little more expensive than the competition, however, I would much rather pay a few dollars more than subject myself to increased risk of data unavailability or data loss with another drive. I purchased four drives, and they quickly installed in a Synology NAS unit, with no issues and they have been running fine since. The drives have very good performance, run cool, and are also very quiet. So far, I am very pleased with my decision.
Fast quality drive!, (What's this?) I stay away from any drive associated with Seagate as they seem to fail a lot. The Hitachi drives have always been top quality.
Excellent drives, (What's this?) I ordered six of these drives to be used with my Qnap 659 Pro II NAS. It works flawlessly and even when all the drives were building RAID 6 Parity, it was very quiet. I am very happy with the performance of these drives. They may be a little expensive, but I picked it because almost all the SMB NAS manufacturers support these drives (Cisco, Synology, Qnap, Netgear). These drives are running 24/7 in my NAS for over a month and weekly tests and diagnostics tells me they are fine.

In the past, I had very good experience with Hitachi drives and I am going to order six replacement 3TBs soon with similar speed as soon as the prices comes a little down, but before WD acquires Hitachi GST.

In short, absolutely worth spending every penny on these.
Don't Buy This Drive!!!, Bought this drive to replace a failed drive in my server. I have another Hitachi drive in the server that has been going strong 24/7 for over a year! No issues. So after I lost a Seagate I decided to buy another Hitachi because of the great experience. Bad decision. This drive is date stamped Aug-2011. Recorded time/date of death Dec-2011. Not even half a year. That is so poor I'm switching back to WD. Not one WD hard drive for me has ever failed to the point of data loss. I still have some working WD drives that are nearly 20 years old. The fact is hard drives always fail and despite the SMART enabled drives supposed to detect when a hard drive is starting to fail. It rarely ever works. I just am really disappointed that the drive only lasted 4 months.
So far so good, (What's this?) The drive is great when I bought it at the $115 price point. I was appalled by the fact that the price more than doubled when Thailand was flooded. It is a complete rip off at 240 bucks.

256GB Fde Solid State Drive for Thinkpad

Your only option for an SSD wtih FDE, Wouldn't it be nice to not have to worry about what happens when your laptop is stolen out of your car or from a cafe?

Wouldn't you like that laptop to be fast and quiet, too?

You can buy an assortment of very good SSD devices. You can also buy lots of very good FDE (full disk encryption) hard disks, but this drive is currently the only available unit that has both features.

You already know why you want an SSD -- because it's *fast*. You could put full disk encryption on top of your nifty SSD, but then your CPU will quickly become the bottleneck for any disk IO and cause your computer to spend a lot of time simply encrypting and decrypting the data.

Software encryption is also clunky and hard to do across an entire disk.

    Seagate Momentus 5400 250GB 5400RPM SATA 3Gb/s 8MB Cache 2.5 Inch Internal NB Hard Drive ST9250315AS-Bare Drive

Works great, (What's this?) Put this little hard drive in my portable media player and its been solid for 1yr. The thing is on basically 24hrs a day and so far no HDD failure.
Very reliable: sure to break down, ST9250827AS died twice (!) on me within a 2-year period.
Seagate does send you a new one (don't expect a happy ending though, you'll get the same model) in exchange for the dead, but bid farewell to all your data.
I have an extensive IT background and I tried avoiding Seagate drives for good, but that time I just needed one quick - well, no more Seagate for me or anyone I know, this time for sure.
    review, (What's this?)
Great PS3 Replacement Drive, (What's this?) I bought this to replace my hard drive in my playstation, and it works great - there were a few glitches with the system, but the drive itself has worked just fine since installing it.
Good HDD, (What's this?) I used this in my Playstation 3 (PS3) and find it is more than space for everything I need. I actually could have gotten away with a 320GB, but decided against it when I remembered how much space the PS3 eats by itself.
Great hard drive!!, (What's this?) I bought this Seagate hard drive to replace a 320GB one on my Gateway NV53 laptop. It has worked very efficiently and it doesn't make laptop hot or noisy at all. Does what it is suppose to do and has even exceeded my expectations considering the good price I got it for.
Quiet Workhorse!, (What's this?) Purchased this to replace a WDC 120GB HDD in a Dell Vostro 1520 laptop. We are by no means heavy users, as the laptop is for Internet surfing, photo-viewing and editing, so the raw speed was hardly a concern to us.
Great HDD, I put this HDD in my PS3. It was a 120GB launch slim. Works great. Now I have room for all 34 of my downloadable games (plus patches, updates, dlc, music, movies, etc.)! Great hard drive. I've had 5 seagates now, and I've never had a problem with any of them. Great price too.
The perfect hard drive, (What's this?) This is a great hard drive to buy for any of your computer or game console upgrades. I bought it to upgrade my 60gb PS3 console.
Damaged after 2 weeks, (What's this?) The drive worked for a week and then came a fatal crash that obliged me to format.

Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKB 500 GB internal 3.5" hard drive (Bulk Packaging)

Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKB 500 GB internal 3.5" hard drive (Bulk Packaging)
WD 500GB IDE Harddrive, (What's this?)
WD PATA 500GB HD, 16mb Cache, OEM, (
Excellent drive, (What's this?) Using this drive for DVR purposes and it is performing very well. Not audio or video glitches so far. Great drive at a great price.
Hard Drive increases video working storage, (What's this?) The hard drive arrived one day early. It installed in about 10 minutes. Setup in less than 5 minutes and in use within less than 30 minutes. Great for extra working storage for large video files.
Dreadful Packaging, (What's this?) Drive arrived at the bottom of a large box, with a few 'air' packets on top of it. Absolutely nothing to stop the drive bouncing around the large box during its journey.
Exactly What I Needed, (What's this?) This drive is for an older video system I use at my store and it is performing exactly as it should.
Quiet, and quicker than the last drive. Just a good IDE drive.
excellent item, (What's this?) Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 GB Bulk/OEM Hard Drive 3.
Fast Silent Drive, Works Well on XP, I bought this drive to replace an aging EIDE drive on one of my office PCs. Rather than go through the hassle of buying a new PC, I often find it worthwhile to just swap out a hard drive with a larger new one especially if the PC is adequate for whatever its used for. What I found with this drive is that the file access is fast. Applications including Windows seem to load up faster and overall the drive is quiet.

The OEM version of this drive has no software. All that needs to be done is to first switch the jumper to SLAVE. Insert the drive into the PC. Download and install (from westerndigital.com) Acronis TrueImage Western Digital Edition and the Data Lifeguard Tools. Both are free.
500 Gig replacement with pazazz, (What's this?) Simple installation, great performance, and the security of back-up. Now that's a fine addition at a low cost.
Good solid IDE hard drive, (What's this?) WD continues to make the most dependable HD's; they are to only ones who make HD's that I trust for storing my 30,500 photos.
